Ricky Petrucciani: MY Journey of Passion, Perseverance, and Triumph

Hey! I’m Ricky Petrucciani, and I hail from the picturesque town of Locarno, Switzerland. Born on June 30, 2000, to a Swiss father and a Brazilian mother, my journey in athletics began to unfold early in life. The spark of passion for sports ignited within me during my formative years.

In 2015, I made a pivotal decision that would redefine my path – a shift from football to sprinting. The allure of training for personal achievement, rather than for a team, fueled my desire to excel in the world of athletics.

Under the expert guidance of Flavio Zberg, starting in 2017, and with my father, Maurizio, taking on the role of manager, my talents blossomed. My early triumphs included clinching the title of Swiss U18 Champion in the 400 meters in 2016, setting the stage for a series of victories to come.

Fast forward to 2021, a year that etched a significant chapter in my career. I proudly secured the gold medal in the 400 meters at the European U23 Championships, breaking the championship record with a personal best time of 45.02 – a record that stands strong to this day. The journey, however, was not without its challenges, but my resilience and unwavering spirit remained steadfast.

Diving a bit deeper into my background, I graduated from Collegio Papio and proudly represent the Ascona-Locarno region as an ambassador. My commitment to self-improvement and personal success led me to work with LC Zürich, underlining my dedication to continuous growth in the field of athletics.

From 2016 to 2019, my junior years were marked by numerous national titles. Victories in the 60 meters, 100 meters, 200 meters (both indoor and outdoor), and 400 meters showcased my versatility and prowess on the track.

The pinnacle of my career so far came in 2021, with the gold medal at the European U23 Championships. A feat that not only added to my growing list of achievements but also set a new standard in the championship record books.

Looking ahead to 2023, I was honored to be selected for the World Championships. Despite setbacks I remained undeterred. However, a hamstring problem led to my withdrawal from the individual 400 meters event, a cautious decision to ensure my readiness for future competitions and the highly anticipated 2024 Olympics in Paris.

As I reflect on my journey thus far, I am fueled with anticipation and excitement for the upcoming 2024 season. Brimming with energy and passion, I am eager to embrace new challenges, break more barriers, and continue leaving my mark on the world of athletics. The road ahead is promising, and I am ready to write the next thrilling chapter of my story.

My journey is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and self-belief. It is a story of overcoming challenges and embracing opportunities, showcasing the extraordinary feats that can be achieved through unwavering dedication to one's craft.
